Library

La Casa's library consists of reading, research and conference rooms. It houses scholarly collections of books, manuscripts, documents, correspondence and audio-visual resources that relate to the history and cultural traditions of Puerto Ricans and Hispanics.

Special areas are: biographies, economics, education, geography, literature, natural resources, cuisine, politics, folklore, art, music, and theatre. The Library users are people from all walks of life: students, teachers, school administrators, parents, seniors citizens and other community people.

Library services are in the process of transformation to an automated system and on-line catalog which can be accessed from the terminals installed in the Library and eventually thru the Internet.

A Bibliographic Instruction Program has been in operation for the benefit of students and teachers of community schools of the New York City Board of Education.

Through this program, our staff offers instructions specifically tailored to provide support for courses of instruction about Puerto Rico and its people. In addition, students, teachers, and patrons are guided in the effective use of the on-line catalog.

At the present, the Puerto Rican Cultural Heritage Collection is broad in scope. Efforts have been directed toward the development and acquisition of more bilingual (Spanish and English) resources related to the Puerto Rican and Hispanic Heritage.
